Protection from discrimination, in 2023 more men than women complained

Complaints about discrimination in 2023 were higher from men than from women.

The official data of the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination shows that the number of complaints from men was 145, while from women 138. According to the report, out of 359 cases that were handled during 2023, the Commissioner estimates that for 344 cases the review has started based on the complaint .

"Of these, in 283 cases, complaints were submitted by individuals (235 complaints registered during 2023 and 48 complaints registered in 2022), in 55 cases, complaints were submitted by organizations with legitimate interests (36 complaints registered in 2023 and 19 inherited complaints in 2022), in 6 cases the complaints were submitted by a group of people (5 complaints registered during 2023 and 1 complaint registered in 2022)" the report assesses.

According to the Commissioner, it is observed that during 2023, there is a decrease in the number of complaints of organizations with legitimate interests, compared to 2022, but it turns out that there is an increase in complaints filed by individuals, compared to the previous year.

Organizations with legitimate interests, mainly during the year 2023, have submitted complaints, which have as their object the protection of a special category, such as: persons with disabilities or various national minorities in the Republic of Albania.

According to the processing of the data made by the Commissioner's office, it appears that claims of discrimination due to disability, political beliefs, belonging to a particular group, educational status, economic status, race, ethnicity, age and condition continue to prevail. health.

The distribution of issues addressed according to 3 areas, employment, education, good services, continues to be similar to that of 2022, during which it turns out that issues in the field of education account for 3.9% of the total issues addressed during this year with a slight decrease of 0.8% compared to the previous year, issues in the field of employment account for 40% of the total number of issues handled this year with a slight decrease of 7% compared to 2022, issues in the field of goods and services account for 56.1% of the total cases handled this year with a slight increase of 7.8% compared to 2022./ Monitor.al
