The High Judicial Council has appointed 42 new magistrates who were appointed as judges on July 31 of this year. Their swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place tomorrow, while it is reported that they have been distributed to 11 courts.
Specifically, according to the announcement of the Supreme Court of Justice, the new judges have been distributed: 3 in Berat, 7 in Elbasan, 7 in Fier, 2 in Gjirokastër, 2 in Korça, 2 in Kukës, 4 in Lezha, 1 in Saranda, 5 in Shkodër, 2 in Vlora and 7 in Lushnje.
The Supreme Court of Justice announces that with the appointment of new magistrates, the number of judges effectively in office increases to 307, while the number of appointed judges increases to 350. It is also announced that there are still 67 vacant positions in the courts.

The High Judicial Council, KLGJ, on Wednesday approved the draft decisions for the appointment of 42 new magistrates, who completed the Magistrates' School in the academic year 2024-2025. Their appointment as magistrate judges was carried out on July 31, but the appointment to duty was made only today, after almost 3 months. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place tomorrow.
The distribution of judges is as follows: i) three positions in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction Berat; ii) seven positions in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction Elbasan, iii) seven positions in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction Fier; iv) two positions in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction Gjirokastër; v) two positions in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction Korçë.
vi) two positions in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Kukës; vii) four positions in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Lezhë; viii) one position in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Saranda; ix) five positions in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Shkodër; x) two positions in the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction of Vlorë; xi) seven positions in the Administrative Court of First Instance of Lushnje.
Since the vetting, the courts in the country, which according to the constitution should have 417 judges, have only 308 appointed judges, of which 265 are effectively in office. The Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, which should have 78 judges, is in a more dramatic situation. With the appointment of new magistrates, the number of judges effectively in office increases to 307, while the number of appointed judges increases to 350. There are still 67 vacant positions in the courts.
