Fisheries Inspectorate descends on Kune-Vain/ Zero tolerance for the protected

The Vaini Lagoon was the focus of inspections carried out by the Fisheries Inspectorate, in cooperation with the Protected Areas Administration and the State Police. As of this Wednesday, the responsible structures have been on the ground, as the company that previously used the lagoon had its contract terminated in May.

However, despite repeated letters and warnings, the illegal activity continued. During the action, nets and other fishing equipment were removed, while the authorities stressed that they will continue to monitor the situation to prevent any violations of the law in protected areas.

The Fisheries Inspectorate announced that there will be no tolerance for violations of this type and that no one has the right to operate in protected areas without the appropriate permit. This operation aims to protect the lagoon ecosystem and preserve biodiversity in one of the most important natural areas of the country.

There have been numerous complaints about the Kune-Vaini lagoon, both for unauthorized construction and illegal fishing, destroying this protected area.
