Council of the EU: Albania to make transparency about media ownership

The Council of the EU has requested transparency for media ownership in Albania.

In the conclusions approved by the Council of the EU, it is emphasized that transparency of media ownership ensures a safe environment for journalists.

Also, it is underlined that no progress has been made in media freedom.

"The Council calls on Albania to continue to strengthen the protection of fundamental rights, including the protection of the rights of persons belonging to minorities, and notes with concern that no progress has been made in freedom of the media and freedom of expression and the rights of persons belonging to minorities. Albania must increase its efforts to strengthen media independence and pluralism by increasing the transparency of media ownership and ensuring a safe environment for journalists", the Council of the European Union stated./ CNA
