Albania is involved in EUROPOL's biggest operation against hate speech on

Specialized Albanian police units participated among 12 countries in the largest organized operation against hate speech on the Internet, the European Union Agency for the Rule of Law (EUROPOL) announced on Monday.

According to EUROPOL, the operation resulted in the identification of a record number of online contents.

According to EUROPOL, "12 countries, including Albania, discovered over 6,350 posts from 46 online platforms and 20 websites that incite violence or contain hate speech against various ethnic and religious groups."

The platforms, according to EUROPOL, included material produced or distributed by organizations, individuals or groups and contained illegal hate speech, such as anti-Semitic hate speech, as well as material that hailed or called for violent or terrorist acts against ".

EUROPOL experts coordinated international action and supported national counter-terrorism police units by identifying, collecting and reporting hate speech content online.

This agency emphasizes that cooperation with Internet service providers is essential to combat illegal online content, such as hate speech, incitement to violence, violent extremism and terrorism.

EUROPOL relied heavily on this operation in a European Union framework decision on combating racism and xenophobia, which tackles the spread of hate speech by ensuring that EU member states have criminal penalties and other measures.

EUROPOL said it has a team of experts in a special unit that detects and investigates harmful content online and on social media.

This team has just published the report "Jihadist Propaganda on the Internet, Review 2023", regarding the main developments in the Internet propaganda of the most popular Sunni jihadist organizations: the Islamic State (IS) and Al-Qaeda (AQ).

The report covers the period from January 1 to December 31, 2023 and identifies the online activities of both groups during this period./ VOA
