Incident in Albanian territorial waters/ Ministry: Intervention to guarantee

The Ministry of Defense has shared details of the rescue of two foreign tourists who were stranded at sea after a breakdown in their boat.

According to the announcement, today, the National Search and Rescue Center (NSRC) was notified by the Greek authorities (JJRC PIRE) of an incident in Albanian territorial waters, where a sailboat with two foreign citizens on board, a German and a Swiss, had suffered an engine failure and was left in the open sea, at a position about 5 miles from the Bay of Grama.

Immediately after receiving the notification, the intervention was organized by the Border Police vehicle of the Dhërmi Station and the P133 LISUS patrol boat of the Naval Force. At the same time, the Border Police land patrol kept the sailboat under visual surveillance from the shore.

Thanks to the coordination of operational structures and despite the rough seas, the situation was managed efficiently. The crew of the sailboat “INRESCENT” managed to restart the engine, and under the supervision of Albanian naval vessels, the vessel was safely escorted to the Gulf of Porto Palermo, where the relevant procedures will be continued.

The two foreign citizens are in good health.

This operation is an example of effective inter-institutional cooperation between the Border Police, the Coast Guard and the National Search and Rescue Center, in guaranteeing security in the Albanian maritime space. /CNA
