Llogara Tunnel opens today/Free until September 15

The Llogara Tunnel will open today, and will be accessible by vehicles throughout the entire tourist season.

This work shortens the distance to the south coast and serves the tourist season.

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku, announced a day ago that only heavy-duty vehicles are prohibited from passing through.

Meanwhile, the Llogara Tunnel will be accessible free of charge until September 15th.

The commissioning of the Llogara tunnel shortens the distance to access the south of the country, avoiding the passage through the Llogara Pass.

The speed of movement in the tunnel will be between 50 and 80 kilometers per hour, while during the summer season, around 10 thousand vehicles are expected to move through it.

The tunnel starts from the St. Eliza Bridge and ends at the Palasa Bridge, and is part of the Orikum-Himarë road section, part of the Vlorë-Saranda Highway.

Construction work on the tunnel began on November 15, 2021, at a cost of about $180 million.
