IGJEUM: Rainfall continues, increased risk of flooding in some areas

The Institute of Geosciences has shared a forecast regarding meteorological conditions for today and tomorrow, as the country has been hit by heavy rainfall for days.

According to hydrological calculations, as a result of the high-intensity rainfall over the past few days and today, there will be an increase in flows and levels in the Mat, Ishëm, Erzen, Shkumbin, and Seman rivers.

There will be an increased risk of flooding throughout today on the Vjosa River, the Drin-Buna River, and Lake Shkodra.

Starting tomorrow, Friday, January 9th, a decrease in flows and levels is expected in all rivers.

Snow and frost:

Today and tomorrow, snowfall is expected to affect areas in the North, East and Southeast of the territory. Snowfall followed by a significant drop in temperatures and frost may create various problems and difficulties in road transport.

Precipitation:

This afternoon and tomorrow, moderate to locally intense rainfall is expected in the districts of Shkodër, Kukës, Lezhë, while moderate rainfall is expected in Dibër. Light to locally moderate rainfall is expected in the districts of Durrës, Tirana, Elbasan, while light rainfall is expected in the other districts. The rainfall is expected to be accompanied by thunderstorms.

In the North, East and Southeast at altitudes above 300 m above sea level, precipitation will be in the form of snow.

Temperature:

Tomorrow, minimum and maximum air temperatures are expected to reach:

on the coast: 2 / 12 °C

in lowlands: -2 / 9 °C

in mountainous areas: -6 / 6 °C

Wind:

This afternoon and tomorrow, the wind is expected to blow moderately to strongly on the coast and in mountainous areas. /CNA
