Prime Minister Edi Rama, during a more than two-hour meeting with the rectors of the universities, gave an idea for the merger of universities in order to increase the ranking.

According to him, the University of Tirana could increase in ranking if it merged with the University of Medicine.

 "The University of Tirana can grow rapidly in its ranking, if it has Medicine within it. These are two separate universities. It is touching on medicine, which is one of the prides of our current academic system for the product it produces. Which is shown by the fact that our graduates find themselves in EU systems without a problem, bringing other universities. It is not possible in such a small country with these potentials that we have, no matter how big we have, they are the potentials of a small country, to have generalist universities throughout the territory.
