Gallup: Kosovo and Albania, the countries that support the US leadership the

The citizens of Kosovo and Albania have a high level of support for the leadership of the United States of America (USA).

The well-known international polling company, Gallup, has published the latest survey "Evaluation of World Leaders, USA vs. Germany, China and Russia".

Kosovo is the country that has the highest support in Europe for the leadership of the United States of America. 83% of respondents in Kosovo are in favor, while 6% do not support it and another 10% have refused to answer.

In second place is Poland, with 73% support, 16% against and 21% refusing to give an opinion.

Albania ranks third. 63% of respondents were in favor of US leadership and 16% were against. The rejection rate is high, at 21%.

Although Kosovo and Albania are the two countries with the first and third highest support, it has fallen compared to previous surveys, by 6 percentage points for each. The same trend was for Poland (-7).

Global support for US leadership was 41%.

Compared to the region, Kosovo and Albania have a much higher rating for US policies.

In the region, Serbia has the lowest support, with only 10% who are in favor of American leadership and 61% against (21% refused to answer). Serbia is actually second to last in Europe, leaving behind only Russia (6% in favor and 88% against).

After Serbia, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (27% in favor), Montenegro (30%), North Macedonia (37% in favor) trust the US leadership less.

According to the report, Gallup polls in more than 130 countries show that the world order remained largely unchanged in 2023.

Neither the US nor Germany received a global approval of their leadership of more than 50%, but overall the German leader earns a higher approval rating than the US.

However, these two countries were still in much stronger positions than China and Russia – which have a record low rating after the invasion of Ukraine.

In the third year of Joe Biden's presidency, the average global approval rating of US leadership was 41% in 133 countries and territories. That rating is the same as last year and lower than the 45% positive rating during his first full year in office.

In the second full year under Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Germany remained the top-rated global power for the seventh consecutive year.

In 2023, the average approval of Germany's leadership in 134 countries and territories was 46% — unchanged from 2022. Both ratings are down from the 50% level that resulted in 2021, but are still higher than most of the mandate of former chancellor Angela Merkel.

Germany and the US continued to have higher approval ratings than China or Russia. China's approval rating rose slightly to 30%, but was still near the bottom.

Russia's global approval rating of 22% in 2023 is statistically as poor as its 21% rating after it invaded Ukraine in late February 2022.

While the US and its allies in Europe condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine, approval of Russia fell in almost every region of the world in 2022, providing evidence that opposition to its actions was much broader.

As Russia's war against Ukraine continues, disdain remains just as strong in Europe. However, there are signs that it is softening elsewhere, especially in Africa, according to the Gallup report./ Monitor.al
