Milk factories are fined with 32 million ALL/Caught in violation by the AKU, 4

While milk and its by-products have had a continuous increase in prices for Albanian consumers, it seems that the quality of the products offered is not in the same wave. During a period of May-August 2023, the National Food Authority has undertaken an investigation in the milk production-processing establishments in the country, where 38 official controls were carried out, 33 fines worth 32.5 million ALL were imposed and 18 warnings were given. Meanwhile, 4 cases were referred to the prosecutor's office and 28 tons of products were blocked.

On the other hand, at the peak of the summer season, due to the high flow of vacationers and tourists, food safety abuses are more frequent. For this reason, the Inter-institutional Task Force for Food Safety has continued the intensive controls in the field, where during the period June 26-August 18 it has carried out 3138 inspections in 12 regions of the country under the supervision of food business operators of production, processing, storage and trading.

During the checks carried out in food businesses, violations of legal requirements were found, such as the sale of unsafe food, lack of hygienic and sanitary conditions, lack of updating the HACCP self-control system, etc.

For this reason, 71 administrative "fines" have been imposed with a total value of 14.3 million ALL, which will be paid by businesses caught in violation.

On the other hand, 771 "warnings" were placed, or in other words, 25% of the inspected businesses, and 207 samples were taken and 327 analyzes were performed. The task force has blocked 5 tons and 393 liters of food products. The National Food Authority states that it will continue with controls throughout the country to guarantee food safety and protect the health of consumers.
