The "Babale" case/ Today the session is held at the Court of Appeal

Today at 10:00 a.m. the hearing will be held at the Court of Appeal against Ervin Salianji for the "Babale" case. 

In the Appeal, this case will be judged by a three-judge with judge Elona Toro as relator and judges Iliba Bezati and Genti Shala as members.

Salianji opposes the sentence of 1 year in prison given by the Court of Tirana in December 2019, after he was found guilty of the charge of "false report".

The Babale affair

The democratic deputy is known as "Babalja", who has been wandering around the courts for 5 years, does everything to drag out this process and in the end tries to come out "washed".

Everything started in the spring of 2018, when Salianji went public and published an audio recording, in which, according to him, the brother of the Minister of the Interior at that time, Fatmir Xhafaj, was involved in drug trafficking.

So, according to the audio-interception, which actually turned out to be a fabricated material, the brother of Fatmir Xhafaj, Agron Xhafaj, was accused of being caught in the wiretap with a former trafficker, Albert Veliu (Babalja). 

But, from the investigations it turned out that Fredi Alizoti was the person who in some cases does the voice of Agron Xhafajt (in the role). The videotaping and interview of Babale was conducted by journalist Jetmir Olldashi.

According to the investigation file, Albert Veliu, known as Babalja, was accommodated at the PD headquarters where he also gave the interview. The stimulated conversation between Albert Veliu and Fredi Alizot was recorded in January 2018. It was recorded on a recording device with a pen which Albert Veliu handed over to Ervin Salianji. 

Fredi Alizoti was sentenced by the court to 2 years in prison on December 18, 2019. The court also sentenced Albert Veli to 3 years and 6 months in prison./CNA
