The construction of Tirana's landfill and incinerator is one of the biggest scandals denounced by the opposition and the media in Albania.

Tirana's incinerator continues to be paid for with Albanian taxpayers' money, although the investment in Sharre has not been completed and no energy is produced yet.

In May 2023, CNA issued the annex-concession contract signed by the government with the Tirana incinerator company, from which it follows that according to the established deadlines, the investment for the construction of the incinerator and the rehabilitation of the existing storage sites in Tirana should have been completed .

While CNA stated that the investment in Sharre should have been completely completed in 2023 to start with energy production, the media of the incinerators and Erion Veliaj said that the deadline ended in 2025.

But this evening, the mayor of Tirana Erion Veliaj has confirmed the CNA. He stated during a television interview that the incinerator should be delivered in 2023.

"We are customers of the landfill, it is run by a public company. What do I think as a Council that I do not have decision-making. As a Council, the plan to build the incinerator is to continue, they were supposed to deliver it in 2023, this anomaly happened, they should apply again. I even encouraged them, apply to open the new cells to compress the garbage", said Veliaj.

So the mayor, responsible for the monitoring that crippled the project implementation unit, after not monitoring the investment, now admits that it should have been submitted.

Thus, he confirms what CNA has been saying for a long time and refutes his media, which were paid by the incinerators./ CNA
