Ecotourism in Albania/Kumbaro: 4.9 million visitors to protected areas

4.9 million visitors were registered in the protected areas from January to October 2024, or 20% more than the same period a year ago.

The figures were made public by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, who says that this is a proof of the extension of the season in the territory and in time, diversifying the tourist offer.

"4.9 million visits from January to October were recorded in our protected areas from national parks, natural parks and natural monuments, surpassing the entire year 2023, as the clearest proof of the extension of tourism throughout the year, diversification and development of ecotourism, as only during the month of October, 440 thousand visitors were recorded in the protected areas", declares Kumbaro.

According to data from the Ministry of Tourism and Environment and the National Agency of Protected Areas, 3.2 million visits were made by Albanian citizens and 1.7 million by foreign visitors.

For the month of October, the most visited parks were Alpet of Albania National Park with 78 thousand visitors, Divjakë Karavasta National Park with 29 thousand visitors and Butrint National Park with 17 thousand visitors.

Natural tourism and protected areas were the focus of the budget of the Ministry of Tourism and Environment for 2025, with two main projects such as the establishment of infrastructure in the Ulza Eco-Park and the construction of the Multifunctional Center of the Vjosa National Park.

The day before, the figures of foreign visitors were also published, which from January to October reached 10.4 million./ CNA
