Dom Gjergj Meta, President of the Catholic Church, congratulated the new Pope Leo XIV on his election as head of the Catholic Church.

"On behalf of the Bishops and all Catholics in Albania, I congratulate Pope Leo XIV on his election as head of the Catholic Church. The Cardinals today gave a Bishop to Rome and a Pastor to the Universal Church. We thank God and pray that the Pope may have the help and protection of God and Our Lady of Good Counsel."

Albanian Catholics have always been loyal to the Pope until martyrdom. We also renew our loyalty and obedience to Pope Leo XIV as the successor of Peter at the head of the Church of Rome.

"I am sure that all Albanians have a sincere affection for the Pope regardless of their faith. We hope to see Pope Leo in Albania very soon," declared Dom Gjergj Meta./ CNA
