Flood damage/ Salla: Compensation for farmers, insurance scheme like the Turkish

The Minister of Agriculture, Andis Salla, stated in a press conference that compensation for farmers for damages caused by the floods will begin.

Minister Salla announced that the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Finance are working on an agricultural insurance scheme according to the Turkish model.

"As you have seen, we have been on the ground together with civil emergencies, the Ministry of Agriculture, but also the municipalities of the country, to verify and have in real time the support for those farmers who have been mainly affected in the territory, whether in livestock that we have delivered a support package for animal feed, but also to families that were affected by the floods that have received immediate support from institutions, such as the municipality, or even the AKMC. We have formed a joint group between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Defense and very soon we will move on to their support. Everyone will be supported as a measure of the procedures that we will establish. Very soon we will come up with a joint report. We are also working with the Ministry of Finance to secure agriculture, secure farms, secure all businesses in the agricultural process to take it to another step so that tomorrow we do not have problems of this nature. We are taking the Turkish model as an example", said Salla.

He further added that within a few days the construction of 7 laboratories will begin.

"We are also training some of the staff of the National Agency for National Education and other sectors, so that we can align all structures with the approach we will have in relation to food safety. Within a few days, we will also start building laboratories," said Salla.

He also emphasized that he will double support for beekeeping and that the goal is to reach from 600 thousand to 1 million hives./ CNA
