CNA reported the leak of investigative secrets/ SPAK reacts

SPAK has reacted to reports of leaks of investigative secrets from the institution.

The Special Prosecution Office confirms CNA's reports that two citizens have been arrested for this act: the individual who carried out the e-mail interference and the one who distributed the information to third parties.

"The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime received information on March 12, 2025 that it had been targeted by an illegal intrusion of the email addresses of special prosecutors. Thanks to security measures, it was not possible to interfere with the internal system of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), which remains intact.

The verifications revealed that only the email addresses of some prosecutors were compromised, but not the institution's general IT system. The responsible persons managed to obtain some information, without being able to secure access to the investigative files. They also attempted to compromise the email of the Head of the Special Prosecution Office, Mr. Altin Dumani, but without success.

Thanks to an intensive investigation led by the Special Prosecutor's Office, with the involvement of the BKH and the Expertise Sector of this Prosecutor's Office, it was possible to uncover this illegal interference, identifying and arresting within 24 hours two citizens - the individual who carried out the interference in the e-mails and the one who distributed the information to third parties. It was also possible to seize the devices used to carry out the interference as well as the downloaded files.

The prosecutor in the case, in order to preserve investigative secrecy, has ordered the persons who have come into possession of this information not to publish it. In the meantime, other individuals who may have had connections with the arrested persons and possessed the information have also been questioned.

In parallel with the criminal proceedings, the Special Prosecution Office launched an internal administrative investigation, which confirmed that the general IT system was not compromised. At the same time, additional measures were taken to strengthen the protection protocols of the institution's general IT system.

Up to this stage of the investigation, there is no evidence that the arrested persons have collaborated with internal SPAK personnel.

SPAK assures the public and all interested parties that all measures have been taken to protect files, sensitive data and maintain the integrity of the institution's infrastructure.

"Investigations regarding this matter continue in the context of suspicions of the existence of a structured criminal group," the announcement states./ CNA
