Amnesty International, one of the world's largest human rights organizations, has published its report for 2023.

The report notes as a particular concern the state of freedom of expression and media in Albania.

Amnesty International focused in particular on the verbal violence against the journalist Ola Xama, who was attacked by some online media, which apparently aimed to intimidate and denigrate her image.

"Journalists were attacked by political figures, such as Erion Veliaj, the mayor of Tirana"

"Erion Veliaj referred to an investigative journalist, labeling her as a 'hitman,' in response to an article in which she highlighted the role that Mayor Veliaj played in the Tirana incinerator project," the Amnesty report notes.
