SPAK's actions on electoral crimes/ Lala: 200 million lek were found in the

Journalist Klodiana Lala shared details this Monday regarding the actions carried out by the Special Prosecution Office regarding electoral crimes in the country.

Invited to a television studio, Lala indicated that over 35 cases are criminal proceedings in the field of corruption or other criminal offenses related to elections.

Lala revealed that during the checks, around 200 million old lek were found in the home of a businessman who was suspected of buying votes in favor of a candidate on the SP's open list.

"The prosecution has reported the cases, there are over 35 cases that are criminal proceedings, mainly in the field of corruption or other criminal offenses, related to the elections and are being investigated. Arrests have been reported, related to the father of a PSD MP, in Fier, there have been several other people in Kukës for PSD, while the most important issues that need to be seen, are related to the Elbasan district.

It is an issue that during the checks, about 200 million old lek were found in the house of a businessman who was suspected of buying votes in favor of a candidate on the open list of the Socialist Party, but he claimed that it was money from business activity. SPAK has doubts that it would be used for buying and selling votes, so there have been checks at several bases or apartments and personal checks of several people. I say it is an interesting case, because the wiretaps were later linked to the amount of money, but no people have been arrested.

There have also been some developments, regarding Shkodra, there have been checks, the mobile phone of the mayor of Vau i Dejës, who is from the SP, has been seized, meanwhile there have been checks at the bases and homes of people suspected of electoral crime. There have been no arrests, but I think there is interest as an issue and mobile phones are being examined.

We have the case of Kavaja, Elvis Rroshi, the former mayor of Kavaja, we know that he has switched from one political force to another. His cousin was running for the DP. In this case, the police have filed a complaint for electoral crime.

What I have found with concern is that the State Police has not been cooperative despite appearing to be so on the surface and has mainly referred cases related to the opposition. This is how I have seen what the police have done in relation to these elections.

Was there vote buying? I believe this and the figures show it. Was there any use of the administration in the elections? This is a universally known fact, just look at the campaigns, the use of ministers' vehicles, the electoral asphalt, but they are not necessarily within the competence of SPAK.

"I expected much more from the election task force. There was an agreement between the institutions and there could have been arrests in flagrante delicto. But we must bear in mind that electoral crime can be punished even later. However, I believe that there will be those who will be punished," Lala said. /CNA
