Fire continues in the village of Vërnik in Devoll/ Entry into the area

A large-scale fire continues in Devoll. Initially, the fire started in the village of Vërnik. Then, due to strong winds, the fire spread to the forest massif of the village.

The fire service forces of the Devoll municipality, the police and the forestry service worked to localize and keep the flames under control, but the strong wind during the evening hours caused the fire to spread to the village of Kapshtica.

The rapid advance of the flames towards the border crossing put the border police on alert, which deployed dozens of forces to assist other services to contain the spread of the flames.

To assist the working groups, firefighting vehicles and forces from the municipalities of Korça, Maliq and Pustec have arrived, but controlling the flames is difficult not only due to the large size of the fire, but also the difficult terrain that makes it impossible for vehicles to enter the area.
