Customs in the north of the country are facing an increased influx of entries and exits. One of the busiest is that of Muriqan. Hundreds of vehicles and thousands of citizens pass through this border point every day.

According to official data from the Shkodra Local Directorate for Border and Migration, during the last 24 hours alone, specifically on July 18, 2025, 22,121 citizens were processed at this crossing point, of whom 12,835 entered our country and 9,286 exited towards Montenegro.

Of the entries, a significant number of 1,941 citizens entered for tourist purposes, confirming the growing interest in summer holidays in Albania, especially in the northern areas and the coast of Velipoja or Shëngjin.

The flow was also high the day before, on July 17, when 19,093 citizens were processed, respectively 10,102 on entry and 8,991 on exit, where 1,723 of them entered for tourist reasons. But this intensity has also brought immediate consequences on road traffic.

Heavy traffic has been reported on the Shkodra-Muriqan axis throughout the morning and afternoon today, while long lines of vehicles have also been created at the entrance to the city of Shkodra up to the Berdica Arch.

Border Police and Road Traffic Services are on the ground, working with increased capacities to cope with the situation. For their part, the authorities appeal for understanding from citizens and tourists, while advising planning trips at less busy times.

The increase in border flow at Muriqan and at the entrance to Shkodra is closely related to the increase in vacationers who choose to spend the weekend or summer holidays in Albania's tourist areas, but also Albanians who live abroad and come for vacation with their families.

It is expected that this influx will increase further in the coming days, especially on weekends, where hotel reservations on the north coast are also higher./CNA
