November 17, the liberation of Tirana/ Celebration and tribute to the fighters
The liberation of Tirana

After 19 days and nights of fierce and uninterrupted fighting, on November 17, 1944, the last German forces withdrew from Tirana, thus marking the Liberation of the capital of Albania. The training operation for the liberation of Tirana was prepared and carried out in the framework of the general training of the Albanian National Liberation Army for the complete liberation of Albania.

The forces of the UNÇSH Brigades fighting in the capital continued their attacks to annihilate the Germans and on the morning of November 16 they launched the final attack to liberate Tirana.

Year after year, this day is commemorated with numerous activities in honor of those who fought and gave their lives for the liberation of Tirana.

The war for the liberation of Tirana had the character of a real frontal war, where the degree of organization of the UNÇSH was clearly seen.

In the fight for the liberation of Tirana, a valuable contribution was made by the people of the capital, who strongly supported all the fights that took place in its neighborhoods and streets. Immediately after the liberation of Tirana, on November 17, 1944, by order of the Anti-Fascist Provisional Government, which was located in Berat at that time, a part of the partisan army took custody of the central building of the National Bank of Albania in Tirana.

The Partisan party took custody of its monetary, administrative and archival assets. On December 15, 1944, a few days after the high state bodies were located in the liberated Tirana, by decision of the General Anti-Fascist National-Liberation Council, gold, silver, platinum and precious stones were banned from leaving Albania./ CNA
