Son drowned in river in Greece/ 12-year-old's father: My soul knows how

The father of the 12-year-old who drowned about 10 days ago in the Araktos River, in the city of Arta, Greece, speaks out.

Bledar Fetollari, the father of the 12-year-old, shared details of the serious incident that occurred in the neighboring country.

He called for help from fellow countrymen in these difficult times.

"I left with my wife and young son, I went like everyone else, an immigrant to work, I stayed for some time where I was working, I was without papers, no documents, I only had a document from the state that they had given me for a year, we worked in agriculture, whatever came of it.

That day, my daughter-in-law was at work, I was at home, a neighbor came over and said, "Let's look for a job." I went to that job. My son was at home, not at school.

When I got home, the boy had left the house, I had left a couple of euros on the fridge, he took them and left.

I was sitting on the couch, outside, smoking a cigarette when Leo, the boy who saved them and pulled them out of the water, called me. He asked me where I was, I said at home, he said: where is your son?! I said he was here at home but I don't know if he's gone. Come on, he told me that your son is drowning. Terrified, I got up to run away, that neighbor came and told me to pull myself together because he's not our son.

Take me on the motorbike, go straight there, at that time they were taking them out, they didn't let me see them.

They took the boy to the hospital with his friend Spiro, they brought him back to life with a machine, his heart started beating while I was at the police station.

When the police called the hospital, they said the children were alive but we had to see the reaction. They took them to Pater, I got a police report for the bride because I had no papers and we went to the hospital. It wasn't allowed there, but they let us in, only his heart was beating. For two or three days we tried not to bring him back to life but unfortunately it didn't work. The doctors told us that the children wouldn't survive.

They said, "Do you want to come in and see him one last time?" I stopped and told the doctor I couldn't do it anymore. My wife came in.

I told the doctor that since the boy is no longer alive but his heart is still working, if my child's heart goes into any body, be it a child, Greek, Albanian, Italian, German, whatever, you can give it to him, as long as my son's heart lives.

They thanked me, and the other family donated it too. I didn't do it for any interest, but to make the boy's heart feel alive. I stayed for two more days at the rented house I had in Greece, then I took the boy back, without any problems from the Greek state.

I came to customs, they didn't tell me anything there either, I signed the form and came here. Here I am at my mother-in-law's house, I don't have a house, for that house I set out on my way to become like everyone else, but the great God gave me a severe test that... my soul knows how I'm living until now.

My appeal at this moment is this: To all the people who want to tell me the truth, I went for a purpose, for a problem, for a house, for something, if there was any possibility of any help, however small, it would be a great thing for me, because for that reason I went to emigrate, even though God turned me to the other side, but I still thank Him. He has given us this life and He will take us away.

"I now have two daughters and an adult son, I had this in my old age, this one that we kept as the apple of our eye, God took it from us," Fetollari said. /CNA
