Animal- and dairy-based fats are saturated, while plant-based fats are unsaturated. Saturated fats stick to blood vessels, clog them and cause heart attacks. Here we can mention linoleic acid or omega-6 fatty acids which increase the risk of premature death as a result of heart disease.

Omega-6 and inflammation

Omega-6 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats found in vegetable oils, nuts and seeds.

One should not overdo their consumption due to inflammation. Scientific studies have shown that omega-6 fatty acids cause inflammation, a problem that increases the risk of heart disease. Omega-3 fatty acids, on the other hand, tend to reduce inflammation.

These fatty acids are found in fish such as salmon and walnuts. Until now, the American Heart Association recommends limiting the daily consumption of saturated fats.

According to her guidelines, 25 to 35 percent of the saturated fats a person consumes should be replaced with monounsaturated fats found in olive oil, for example. Replacing saturated fats from foods such as meat, butter, cheese and sweets with plant-based foods helps achieve these restrictions.

Other sources containing omega-6 fatty acids are vegetable oils, nuts and seeds. Fats should never be replaced with carbohydrates because this increases the risk of diabetes and the level of triglycerides in the blood.

Other risks from consuming Omega-6 fatty acids

People affected by eczema, psoriasis, arthritis and diabetes should be careful with these fatty acids because they interfere negatively with the absorption of medications. On the other hand, eating large amounts of omega-6 instead of omega-3 can upset the balance of fatty acids in the body. /Agroweb
