If a person does not even meet the minimum dose of sleep needed, i.e. 7 hours, the chances of developing the disease in question increase by 9 percent for every hour of sleep missed.

Experts say that lack of sleep can cause the body to produce inadequate insulin and increase the production of blood sugar, or glucose.

Although diabetes is not caused by a single factor alone, excess glucose due to insulin resistance is problematic because, if left untreated or persistent, it can lead to serious health complications, including heart disease, neuropathy, and loss of sight.

Chronic lack of sleep causes a strong stress on our internal system and promotes an increase in blood pressure.

Hypertension is closely related to heart disease, and the latter represent a double risk of death for people suffering from diabetes.
