Dinner time is associated with an increased risk of breast and prostate cancer.

The main thing you need to know? Better not to go to bed immediately after eating dinner.

A new study published at the end of August 2018 by the World Congress Against Tumors reveals that eating an early dinner and ensuring a long interval between the last meal and sleep significantly reduces the risks of breast and prostate cancer.

The study included 621 cases of patients with prostate problems and 1205 cases of patients affected by breast cancer, a total of 872 men and 1321 women.

Participants were interviewed about meal times and sleep patterns and completed a food frequency questionnaire.

What was the biggest finding of the scientific study?

Compared to those who slept immediately after dinner, those who slept 2 or more hours after eating dinner had a 20% reduction in the risk of developing harmful breast cancer cells and prostate cancer.

A similar reduction in the risk of malignancy was also observed in participants who had eaten dinner before 9:00 p.m. compared to eating dinner after 10:00 p.m.

The findings presented by the study's lead scientists underscore the importance of assessing the body's internal clock in studies of the relationship between nutrition and tumor development.

Also important is the need to develop nutritional recommendations for cancer prevention that focus not only on the type and amount of food intake, but also on the time of consumption.

"If the results are confirmed on an even wider scale, they will be of great importance for cancer prevention recommendations that currently do not take meal timing into account," said lead study author Manolis Kogevinas, of the ISGlobal Research Center, in Barcelona.

"The impact may be particularly important in cultures such as those in Southern Europe where people tend to have dinner late," said the scientist, leader of the study./ AgroWeb.org
