Zhupa: The failure of the May 11 elections was due to the electoral farce

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa stated today that the failure of the May 11 elections occurred due to the electoral farce, which, according to her, will be proven day by day by the opposition.

"We are a country that organized elections for the first time after the opening of negotiations, human rights and of course elections were fundamental. And we failed in organizing the elections because in Albania there was an electoral farce, according to the events that were documented and are being documented day by day by the opposition," said Zhupa.

In an interview on 'Syri TV', Zhupa also commented on the opposition meetings in Strasbourg.

"We have been in the 2-day meetings in Strasbourg, a delegation from the opposition and the majority, without exception and in focus on the integration process and the supervision of the Stabilization and Association Agreement. Of course, we did our duty, clearly showing the MEPs the real situation of Albania and what happened in the May 11 elections as a contribution that we make to the integration process. In fact, the Albanian opposition must be said that in these 12 years it has clearly shown that it has the will in the integration process that it has always voted for those legal obligations and those rules that brought Albania closer to the EU, and every denunciation that we make in Strasbourg and every truth that we tell is in function of the EU's standard achievements, fundamental in the first cluster", - said Zhupa.

Zhupa said that there is a willingness among MEPs in Strasbourg to monitor Albania more closely and to follow this entire process, which primarily concerns the elections.

"There we clearly presented all the facts related to the reports made by the OSCE-ODIHR in the way it had seen and evidenced the electoral process from the use of public resources, public funds, public administration. The OSCE itself calls it an unequal competition between actors where one was the electoral state, the Socialist Party, and the other was a normal political force that ran with a program and candidates such as the Democratic Party. What went well in Strasbourg is the willingness of the MEPs to monitor Albania more closely, to follow this entire process that has to do primarily with the elections in Albania. Because there can be no fulfilled political criteria if you do not have free and fair elections in Albania," said Zhupa./CNA
