The political leader of the Democratic Party for the Diaspora, Jozefina Topalli, emphasized in a media statement that Albania is lagging behind in terms of the emigrant vote.

Among other things, Topalli added that if immigrants were fully aware of the power of their vote, they could completely change the balance of politics in Albania.

"In addition to the Albanians who are in Albania, this time there is a new one. And the Albanians of the diaspora no longer need to come to contribute to their homeland. They now, from the place where they reside outside the territory of Albania, have the opportunity to vote.

Of course, this is their right, which could have been granted long ago, and which they have been exercising in Kosovo for 2-3 terms.

But, as in every aspect, we here in Albania are behind. It is the first time that such a thing has happened. And, like the first time, it is an uncharted path.

It's a novelty for everyone. Both for political forces and for Albanians living outside the territory of Albania, because I don't know how much it was possible to sensitize all Albanians that there is a possibility to vote.

"If each of them knew the electoral power of their vote, which could be transmitted through registration on the electronic registration platform at the CEC, it would constitute a potential that would change the entire political balance in Albania and would absolutely make it possible for the situation to change and for us to have a major political change," Topalli said. /CNA
