VOA: The electoral campaign, dominated by the harsh language of party leaders

In Albania, the campaign for the local elections, which closes the next day, was dominated by the exchange of political attacks and accusations, where there was no lack of insulting and derogatory tones towards the opponent. While the candidates in the race for the country's 61 municipalities held frequent meetings with the citizens, focusing mainly on local problems, the discourse of the political leaders was more like a battle for the reins of the central government than of the cities and villages of country.

At the opening of the campaign, Prime Minister Rama declared that his party and the candidates for municipalities and municipal councils should deal with political opponents as little as possible and avoid, as he said, "linguistic and visual pollution", with a presence reduced posters and slogans on city streets.

In fact, the first posters that appeared immediately afterwards were those of the prime minister, accompanied by black and white photos of his opponents, Berisha and Meta, with the inscription "Never back". Derogatory epithets towards both of them took a leading place in Mr. Rama's speeches during the campaign.

"Do these right-wingers understand that this man, together with the gold, that they are one, Salike gold I tell them? Do they understand that Salikja is a shame? ", said Mr. Rama during a rally in Saranda a few days ago.

The prime minister has maintained the same approach, often and with contemptuous tones, towards the candidates of the coalition "We win together", describing them simply as masks of their leaders: "These candidates of the black page and Like gold are like them the violinists of the Titanic who played their instruments when the ship was sinking ".

“Ku janë kandidatët e Edi Ramës? Bodrumeve, nuk takohen me qytetarët, takohen me punonjësit e tyre, takohen me grupet mafioze, shpërndajnë para. E dinë se vendin e kanë në burg për krimet që kanë kryer dhe atje do të shkojnë. Edi Rama ka vjedhur shqiptarët më shumë se të gjithë pushtuesit e marrë së bashku”, deklaroi zoti Berisha gjatë një mitingu, dje pasdite në Durrës.

Koalicioni "Bashkë fitojmë", formacioni më i madh opozitar, është përpjekur të joshë mbështetësit e vet, me idenë se një fitore në këto zgjedhje do t’i shkurtonte ditët edhe qeverisë.

“14 maji do të jetë gjithashtu dhe dita në të cilën ne vendosim për ti dhënë duart kësaj qeverie në vjeshtën që vjen. Ju garantoj se Edi Rama nuk mund të qëndrojë kurrë më gjatë në pushtet”, u shpreh zoti Berisha pak ditë më parë në Gjirokastër.

Edhe sipas zotit Meta, pjesmarrje në zgjedhjet e së dielës do t’i bënte qytetarët “pjesë e një përmbysje, që fillon në 14 maj, të regjimit të korrupsioni absolut siç ishte ai për shkak të monizmit absolut në 61 bashkitë dhe këshillat vendore të vendit tonë, për të filluar transparencën absolute që është interesi i çdo qytetari që jeton në këtë vend".

Zoti Berisha u detyrua të strehohet në koalicionin "Bashkë fitojmë", të drejtuar nga zoti Meta, pasi vendimi i Gjykatës së Apelit la të pazgjidhur debatin për përfaqësimin zyrtar të Partisë Demokratike, i cili për rrjedhojë është ende në duart e grupimit të kryesuar nga zoti Enkelejd Alibeaj. I papërgatitur në kohë për zgjedhjet e 14 majit, dhe i dëmtuar nga përplasjet e brendshme ky grupim u përfshi në garë me një numër të kufizuar kandidatësh për kryetarë të bashkive, duke synuar më së shumti përfaqësimin në këshillat bashkiakë.

Për zotin Alibeaj këto zgjedhje janë një përplasje e dyfishtë, nga njëra anë me socialistët në pushtet dhe nga ana tjetër me koalicionin Berisha-Meta, që sipas tij nuk përfaqësojnë opozitën reale të vendit.
