For 23 years, the municipality of Maliqi has been led by Gëzim Topçiu, who is seeking the 7th mandate and is known as the only mayor who has reached this number of mandates. He has been running Maliq Municipality since 2000 and seems to have spent more than half of his life as mayor.

In the promises of the next mandate, Topçiu has mentioned the revitalization of the area, along the Maliqi Bridge towards the Pheasant Forest, the creation of the Palafite Museum, since Maliqi is the center of Albanian archeology as well as a Cinema and Cultural Center that started as a project and will to be completed within this mandate.

The "Bashke Fitomje" coalition will be represented in these elections by the well-known doctor Alfred Gega. This candidacy was chosen from the primaries and was welcomed not only by the democrats but also by the residents of Maliqi.

Alfred Gega has been engaged in politics since 1990 with the beginning of the Student Movement. He was also a deputy of the Republican Party in 2005. His profession as a doctor and the connection with the residents of the Municipality of Maliqi has never been severed as he has also served them at the University Trauma Hospital for many years.

Gega seeks his first term as mayor by focusing on some key issues that exist in this municipality. Some of the promises are related to: reduction of local taxes up to 30%, rehabilitation of rural roads and connection of villages with public transport, water supply and sewerage network.

Being a doctor, Gega's main focus is on the 24-hour health service at Maliq and Pojan Centers. There will also be a focus on agriculture and animal husbandry to bring development to agricultural and breeding products as well as their sale.
