It has often been rumored in the media that the mayor Erion Veliaj could be the successor of Prime Minister Edi Rama in the Socialist Party.

Some analysts have even stated that Veliaj is working against the head of the government to take his place. Regarding these allusions, the prime minister and the chairman of the SP were asked this evening.

Rama said on Erla Mëhilli's show that for now the SP does not need a new leader and the socialists will decide this when the moment comes.

Erla Mehilli: Will he be your successor in the PS?

Edi Rama:  This is not a topic that has ever interested me. Many people tell me what about the successor? I think this is not my task, this will be the task of those who will need another leader when I am no longer there. They will choose those who want to continue and they will choose the leader. I will not choose it.

Erla Mëhilli: Will you vote for Mr. Veliaj for president?

Edi Rama:  We are not there yet. I will be a simple member of the Socialist Party and I will participate in the vote, but who will be our leader after me, we will decide this when we need another leader./ CNA.al
