The US ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim, declared yesterday that "non grata" persons should not be voted for by the citizens in the May 14 elections, referring to the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha.

This evening, the member of the Presidency of the DP, Jozefina Topalli, reacted, who said that Kim made a similar statement before.

"We are in an electoral campaign. Even a year ago, we had a similar statement when there were elections on March 6. Where it was said that Berisha's candidates had no offer", she said.

Topalli said that the accusations against Berisha remind him of the time when the former US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton described Albania under the DP government as the time when there was a functional democracy in Albania.

"The accusation of Berisha for essential corruption and undermining democracy reminds me of one thing. I was the speaker of the parliament when Hillary Clinton came to the 100th anniversary of independence. She gave a speech that electrified the hall, she has a phrase in the middle of the speech: If you want to see a functioning democracy, come and you will find it in Albania. And there is talk of the time when Berisha was prime minister", said the member of the Presidency of the DP./ CNA.al
