Details of Celibashi's meeting with the EU and US ambassadors are revealed

The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, held a meeting today with the EU ambassador, Christiane Hohmann, and the US ambassador, Yuri Kim.

The American Embassy in Tirana has released details from this meeting, where it is known that Celibashi reported on the CEC's preparations for the May 14 local elections.

According to the statement, the two ambassadors gave their orders. They stated that the CEC should perform its duty without interference during the election period and focus on implementing the unfulfilled recommendations of the ODIHR.

“Sot, më 5 prill, Ambasadorja e BE-së Christiane Hohmann dhe Ambasadorja e SHBA-së Yuri Kim u takuan me Komisionerin Shtetëror të Zgjedhjeve Ilirjan Celibashi.

Komisioneri Celibashi i informoi ambasadoret mbi përgatitjet e Komisionit Qendror të Zgjedhjeve në prag të zgjedhjeve vendore të 14 majit 2023. Gjithashtu, Komisioneri theksoi përpjekjet e KQZ-së për të garantuar një garë të ndershme, duke përfshirë monitorimin e keqpërdorimit të burimeve shtetërore dhe transparencën për të dhënat financiare.

Dy ambasadoret theksuan se ishte thelbësore për procesin zgjedhor që institucionet si KQZ-ja të lejoheshin ta kryenin punën e tyre pa ndërhyrje dhe se njerëzit duhet të jenë në gjendje të zgjedhin lirisht për kë të votojnë. Ambasadorja Hohmann e lidhi zhvillimin e zgjedhjeve me rrugën e Shqipërisë drejt anëtarësimit në BE.

“Procesi i anëtarësimit të Shqipërisë është duke u zhvilluar dhe ka përfunduar shqyrtimi i grupimit të parë të kapitujve, ku zgjedhjet janë një komponent i rëndësishëm i bazave. Prandaj, do t'i kushtohet vëmendje e shtuar zhvillimit të zgjedhjeve lokale”, tha Ambasadorja Hohmann.

The two ambassadors emphasized the importance of the integrity of the candidates in the elections and having equal conditions for the electoral competitors. They emphasized that the CEC should maintain the credibility and respect achieved so far and focus on the implementation of the unfulfilled recommendations of the ODIHR.
