The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, held a meeting in the city of Saranda this afternoon. In his speech, Berisha focused on the current situation of Saranda and its citizens.

Berisha began his speech by emphasizing the many natural and archaeological beauties of Saranda and the greatness of the people of the area.

"Talking about Saranda the Great is more justified than anywhere else because it has an extraordinary cultural and natural heritage. It is the land of the most beautiful jewels. It has a natural cultural park that perhaps no other place in the world has. It has the greatness of its people, Albanians, Greeks, Aromanians, living in peace. This is the Sanada that we inherit," said Berisha.

Berisha said that Saranda today has many problems, as pensioners in particular face numerous daily difficulties.

Berisha called the pension for the elderly ridiculous.

"But Saranda today is the city of old men and women who have exhausted their energy. They are living a tyranny. They are living a survival and a ridiculous pension."

For those of us who lived through the dictatorship, it was one of class struggle, but also of misery.

"Today, pensioners, construction and farm workers, doctors, teachers, engineers, and professionals live on a pension that makes it much more difficult to afford their daily meals," Berisha said. /CNA
