The member of the leadership of the DP, Gent Strazimiri, spoke this afternoon about the May 14 elections, after the denunciation made today by the Democratic Party.

In a television appearance, Strazimiri said that the opposition has evidence that the May 14 elections in Albania have not reached even the minimum standards of the Copenhagen Charter.

He stated that these evidences will be submitted to the OSCE-ODIHR mission, so that they will then give the proper name to the "premises".

"We have said from the beginning that this is no longer a question of results, but it is a question of the existence of democracy. Today the report was presented and equipped with evidence, film footage, photographs with sound and pictures of those people who participated in the deformation of the free vote. The opposition has the evidence that the May 14 elections in Albania did not even reach the minimum standards of the Copenhagen Charter, which basically have the election and not the vote.

The voter must be free to vote and not be intimidated to vote for the candidate of power. The state must be impartial, while the ruling party must not use the state to predetermine the outcome of elections. The government is responsible for an equal contest between the party in power and the opposition. We had a state machinery that influenced 100% the outcome of the elections and the administration used state resources to buy votes.

This shows that here we have not had elections but only votes, the only point of the Copenhagen Charter that has been implemented is that of calmness and the prevention of criminal events in this process.

We expect that the OSCE-ODIHR will give the right name to these elections and the majority of Albanians have been controlled to vote and we as a society must stop and try to restore democracy in Albania", said the member of the Presidency of the DP- s./ CNA.al
