Vangjel Tavo has won the elections in the Municipality of Himara. He received 5,022 votes, while his opponent, the opposition candidate, Petro Gjikuria, was supported by 3,545 citizens, or 41.38 of the voters. The difference between the two candidates is 1477 votes.

Regarding the candidacy in this municipality, Tavo said in a television interview that he received the proposal from Edi Rama and accepted it after a conversation with the head of the government. For this race, he also resigned as prefect of Vlorë district.

If we make a comparison with the past, the relationship between Rama and Tavo is currently fixed.

Even Rama in a recent post, the head of the government has called the victory of Vangjel Tavos spectacular.

We emphasize that before there were no shortage of clashes, insults, accusations and counter-accusations between them in public.

Tavo's charges on April 27, 2021

Vangjel Tavo, the first on the LSI list in Gjirokastër, reacted after this force could not even secure a mandate in this region in the April 25 elections.

With a post on "Facebook", Tavo said that he competed in unequal conditions and there was vote buying, thus targeting the Socialist Party led by Edi Rama.

"I have served you with all my heart, and this has been the greatest pleasure in my public life. As you have witnessed, this battle which has just passed was under entirely unequal conditions. This is by no means an excuse, but a fact and a reality which it was also seen by you. In these unequal conditions, therefore, the electoral victory was difficult to achieve", said Tavo, among other things.

He said that the price for buying the vote had gone up to 500 euros.

"There is talk of 500 euros, the price has increased. The money accumulated from hashish in the past years has already taken its toll and will be spent. I tell people to take the money that is stolen or drug money, but to cast the votes where they think. The poor should have the stolen money rather than those who have it," he denounced.

April 2021 clash

On April 8, 2021, during the electoral campaign, when Edi Rama inaugurated the reconstruction of Saint Mary's Church in Dropull, Vangjel Tavo, at that time a deputy of the LSI, attacked Edi Rama.

"You wicked, you immoral, you indignity, you infidel! You are panicked about the expected loss and you are wandering around the cemeteries, lying to the dead, but the time of your regime is over", said Tavo to Rama.

There was also a comment from the head of the government, who said: "Vangjo, the tinker of Lika's father and Dr. Mona, remembers that he will buy votes again with envelopes and Greek pressure in Dropull".

The murder of Kostandino Kaçifas

At the end of October 2018, RENEA executed the anti-Albanian extremist, Kostandinos Kaçifas, in the village of Bularat in Dropulli.

On October 29, Vangjel Tavo accused the Albanian police of killing the extremist Kostandinos Kaçifas, saying that he did not want to kill anyone, but was defending the cause as a missionary of the interest of his nation (Greek).

He even went to the family of the murdered extremist and came out against the action of the Albanian state.

"Yes, I believe it and I understand the pain! If he wanted to do it, he would have done it. Kacifas didn't want to kill anyone. I don't know what to say... The only thing I want is to call for the body to come of the boy at home. As soon as possible", said Tavo.

This was a stance against the Albanian government and Prime Minister Edi Rama, where Kacifas was called an extremist.
