In a statement to the media, DP spokesperson Floriana Garo spoke about the scandal denounced by journalist Klodian Tomorri regarding the reconstruction funds in Durrës. The case concerns the reconstruction of the gymnasium in Manzë. For this school, which only needs plastering, painting and new doors, and the construction of a gym, 3.15 million euros have been allocated, considering it theft.

Garo said these abuses will be investigated and punished.

"What is happening with the reconstruction funds in Durrës is an act of violence against Albanian taxpayers. Edi Rama's government continues to mercilessly extort every penny, turning the reconstruction into a mechanism of personal and electoral benefits.

The most recent case of abuse is from the Durrës Municipality with the reconstruction of the gymnasium in Manzë. For this school, which only needs plastering, painting and new doors, and the construction of a gym, 3.15 million euros have been allocated! Such a reconstruction in European countries, together with the gym, in the best standards, does not cost more than 1.2 million euros.

This is an open theft, another affair that proves that public funds do not go to improve schools or the well-being of citizens, but to dark deals and corrupt tenders.

It has been 6 years since the November 2019 earthquake and instead of having safe, warm and normal schools in Durrës and throughout Albania, we have a government that recycles existing buildings and sells them to the public as 'new buildings.' This is not reconstruction, it is fraud and misuse of public resources.

The Democratic Party denounces this economic crime, this open theft, this game with the national earthquake disaster of 2019. We guarantee the citizens that the abuses of reconstruction funds will be investigated and punished without distinction.

We assure every Albanian that, in our government, public funds will be used for the citizens, not the rulers and for the machinery of electoral fraud! It is the turn for a government that cares for the interests of the Albanians! It is the end of a collaborationist government of crime and fraud!" , said Garo./ CNA
