The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic

The UN General Assembly adopted the resolution declaring July 11 the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Srebrenica Genocide.

The resolution passed with 84 votes in favor. 19 against, while 68 abstained. Before the vote, there were arguments among those present.

"The resolution is not directed against anyone. Not even against Serbia - a valid member of this organization. It only targets the perpetrators of genocide," said the German ambassador to the UN, Antje Leendertse, whose country co-drafted the text of the resolution, at the opening of the debate. resolution.

In his address, the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, said that it is a "highly politicized resolution" that "will not contribute to reconciliation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, nor in the region", while warning that Serbia will takes revenge diplomatically.

Vucic stated that such a Resolution does not speak about the individuals who committed crimes in Srebrenica, but speaks "in general". He addressed the representative of Germany in a rude tone, asking her why, according to him, they "secretly prepared the Resolution"

Following the results of the vote on the Srebrenica resolution, Serbian President Aleksandar Vu?i? was seen throwing the Serbian flag over his shoulder.

The resolution, among other things, calls for "unreserved condemnation of any denial of the genocide in Srebrenica, as well as actions that glorify those convicted of war crimes, including those responsible for the genocide."

The resolutions of the General Assembly are not legally binding.

Unlike the resolutions of the UN Security Council, they most often "call on" member states to act./ CNA
