Report on the development of the electoral process/ British Embassy: State

The Embassy of the United Kingdom has drawn the conclusions after close observation of the electoral process in the country.

Amabasada, in her reaction on social networks, writes that she fully supports the report published by the OSCE-ODIHR, asserting that during the election process, misuse of state resources, allegations of vote-buying and pressure on public sector employees were found.

" The United Kingdom Embassy closely followed the local elections on May 14. Today we want to congratulate all those elected to represent Albanian citizens at the local level, bearing in mind that the counting process is still ongoing in many areas.

The UK fully supports the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) follow-up report, which was published today.

We welcome the report's findings about a generally well-administered process by the Central Election Commission, despite some technical difficulties. We support the report's encouragement to address problems of misuse of state resources, allegations of vote-buying and pressures on public sector workers and not just to vote a certain way.

We encourage all political parties, politicians and institutions to address these concerns, including through the ad-hoc Parliamentary Commission on Electoral Reform.

We look forward to working closely with the newly elected mayors and municipal councils. And we encourage everyone to focus on how they can best respond to the needs of all Albanian citizens in their localities ," the statement reads./ CNA.al
