The chairman of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, hosted today in a meeting a delegation of reporters from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe consisting of Asim Mollazada, Jonut Stroe, Bas Klein and Giulia Re, head of the KiE office in Albania.

Berisha said that Albania is in the middle of a crisis that has to do with the "special relationship" between crime and voting under the government of Edi Rama.

As he stopped at the elections in Kukës, he declared that "solving this crime-election relationship is one of the points where KiE should contribute".

Also, Berisha cast doubt on the justice system, while for the May 14 elections he raised accusations of theft and political pressure.

"The administration turned into 'electoral political police' and the government created 1.3 million nomadic voters by changing the voting center at the last moment", said the former prime minister.

After Berisha, KiE reporters also met MPs Gazment Bardhi and Jorida Tabaku.

Bardhi expressed concern about the need to strengthen the fight against corruption, the completion of the Electoral Reform in order to guarantee free and fair elections, as well as the strengthening of parliamentary mechanisms for accountability by the Government.

"We thanked them for their position in the preliminary report, which emphasized that all democracies need a well-functioning opposition that provides the proper system of checks and balances of power. In response to their call in the October 2022 report for the Democratic Party to overcome internal disputes and play its important role in the governance of the country, involving all parties, I informed them of efforts to make the opposition functional in Parliament and to overcome the internal party conflict, through the construction of a common opposition agenda" declared Bardhi./ CNA
