Rama: Arson should be punished the same as murder

Prime Minister Edi Rama, during the presentation of the package of legal measures for the protection of property and territory, also touched on arson.

Rama said that the penalties for arsonists should be more severe than those for those who build without permits.

The Prime Minister proposed that arsonists be treated as murderers, as fire destroys the heritage of many generations.

" Penalties for arsonists should be more severe than those for illegal construction. Setting a fire in Gramsh cannot be punished with 3-8 years and illegal construction in a protected forest area with 5-10 years. Illegal construction can destroy it, while forest regeneration takes years. Arsonists should be treated as murderers and deliberate arson should be punished the same as murder. In conditions when the heritage of many generations melts within 2 or three nights and people's lives are put at risk, while the house also disappears with the forest.
