The Vice President of the Democratic Party and political leader of the Shkodra District, Luçiano Boçi, was present today in Postriba at the commemorative ceremony of the Postriba uprising.

In his speech, Boçi said that today, gratitude alone is not enough, it is too little for the persecuted. The DP vice-chairman stated that the fight must continue, just as the participants of the Postriba uprising did.

Boçi stated that it is not enough to just lay wreaths for the fallen, but justice must be served for these men.

"History has its heroes and we must know well that Postriba itself, which became the holy place of resistance, calls its men above and below the ground and asks what we will do today. Today it is not enough to just thank, it is not enough for the persecuted. We must continue to fight as those men did with their resistance. It is not enough to place wreaths, we must establish justice for these men and women. It is not enough to just talk about freedom, we must act as free people, committed to our common deeds. Their goals and dreams are closely intertwined here. They called us in their echo. Glory to the heroes of Postriba" , said Boçi.

 

Today marks the 79th anniversary of the Postriba Anti-Communist Uprising and it continues to be commemorated as one of the important events of the Albanian anti-communist resistance.

On September 9, 1946, the residents of Postriba and the surrounding area, dissatisfied with the establishment of the communist regime, attacked the army barracks and the Shkodra prison, with the aim of releasing political prisoners.

Their revolt was violently suppressed and 9 of the rebels were sentenced to death, 4 others to life imprisonment, while 6 rebels were sentenced to 15-20 years in prison./ CNA
