Rama: We would accept membership with a different status, without veto or voting

Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today at the Chatham House panel in London that they would accept membership with a different status in the European Union.

While answering journalists' questions, Rama said that they would accept becoming part of the EU even without the right to veto or vote.

"I have been an advocate of two things. The first is that the process cannot be all or nothing. The member states around us receive a contribution of 4,500 euros per capita from the EU. The contribution for us is 160 euros per capita. This is impossible. We advocated for this and from this impetus we managed to find ears to have a Growth Plan and money for reforms. The second is precisely this that there is a desperation among EU countries regarding equality around the table. So there is a veto and they are right. Our admission as a member with a different status is welcome, without the right to veto or vote as long as the EU will reform itself. We would completely agree. When it comes to compliance with EU policies and when it comes time to decide, we are on the same page. When there is failure, no one blames us, when there is success, we are part of the success", said Rama. /CNA
