Dear friends, Albanian-American Professor Ferid Murati, laureate of the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine, as well as several other important prizes in the field of medicine and cardiology, the scientist of Albanian origin, the most outstanding of all time, closed eyes forever!

Professor Ferid Murad had a brilliant career leading the most prestigious universities in the USA. He developed a scientific research activity of exceptional importance in the field of biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology and cardiology. Of fundamental importance was his study on the role of nitric acid in the physiology of blood vessels as a signaling molecule in the cardiovascular system, which was crowned with very important discoveries such as Viagra etc. for which he received the Nobel Prize together with two scientists others Robert F. Furchgott and Louis J. Ignarro.

I was lucky enough to receive him during his visit to Albania in June 2011. In this meeting and at the dinner held in his honor, Prof. Murad expressed his willingness to help in cooperation between Albanian universities and the US universities where he worked, to support scientific research, the formation and work of Albanian scientists and the advancement of science in the function of Albania's development.

On this occasion, I also express my greatest respect and the most boundless gratitude for his extraordinary contribution to medical sciences, his love for the Albanian nation, the exaltation of the name of an Albanian-American in the Olympiad of world science.

Conveying my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the Nobel laureate Ferid Murad, I pray together with them that his great soul may find the peace it deserves. Amen. #sb/ CNA
