The head of the Municipality of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, in a statement made on the International Day of Access to Information, said that the institution he leads has provided information about the incinerators, but it has been misused for personal interests. 

Veliaj mentioned the case of a journalist, to whom, according to him, he had given information, but it was misused on the latter's portal. He underlined that even though there are such cases, he will not be discouraged from providing information, that is, informing the public. 

 

"We had a case in the municipality of Tirana when they asked for information about a procedure for cleaning Tirana that we found in the municipality of Tirana, from the previous administration. In the previous administration, there was an interest in incinerators and to solve Tirana's garbage. It was an offer of 37 euros per ton. A journalist asks for information and we give it to him, and why did we have a feeling that the information that would be used incorrectly had nothing to do with the unsolicited offer that came two years later from the private sector. We provided information and why it was used incorrectly. It was used to lie temporarily and to say that this was requested by the Municipality of Tirana. It's like mixing apples with oranges. I am not discouraged. I will continue to provide information even though 1 in 100 people use this as a political tool for a portal. They seek the information to impose fines.
