The Minister of Youth, Bora Muzhaqi, lied publicly this Sunday, during her speech at the Congress of the Socialist Party.

Muzhaqi said that the SP refused to bring Syria's chemical weapons to Albania, which were to be dismantled.

"The most fantastic proof of this belief and from the very beginning was when Edi Rama as prime minister listened to the voice of thousands and thousands of young people and citizens of Tirana when they said no to disarmament in Albania. What a contrast with those who opened fire on the protesters from the windows of the prime minister's office, surrounded by a fence like a prison", said the minister.

In fact, the truth is quite different. At the end of 2013, a few months after the Socialist Party had come to power, with Prime Minister Edi Ramë, there were rumors about the dismantling of chemical weapons in Albania.

This prompted numerous protests in front of the Prime Minister's Office, but also in front of the American Embassy. The protests also spread in Elbasan and in the village of Mjekës, where it was said that the chemical weapons could be dismantled.

Also, an online campaign against the arrival of Syrian chemical weapons in Albania was carried out.

The large and successive protests forced the government to withdraw from this initiative and it was decided that chemical weapons would not be brought to Albania./ CNA
