The draft law on Criminal Amnesty is approved in principle, with 15 votes in favor, in the Laws Committee. 

During his speech, the Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja, said that if this bill is approved by the Assembly, 700 convicted persons and 2,500 persons on probation will benefit.

He underlined that the categories that benefit from reduced sentences range from 1,200 to 1,600 convicts.

"There have been models that amnesty has had both for the convicted and for criminal prosecutions. There have also been only for convicted persons, that this is the goal. Amnesty did not want to remove the instrument from the hands of justice, for the accusations that are raised from the prosecution. There have been such models. We have accurate statistics. We have asked for amnesty because we have 2,200 convicted persons. If the approval of the Assembly will be obtained, 700 convicted persons and 2,500 persons on probation will benefit. The category that will benefit from reduced sentences are from 1,200 to 1,600 convicts. These are statistics related to this amnesty. Regarding the persons who are under investigation or trial, if they exceed the rule that we will amnesty the offenses that are punishable up to 2 years, there is no subjectivity. If we go beyond this margin, here is a delicate moment that we interfere in the work of the justice system," said Manja./ CNA
