Journalist Klodiana Lala on "MCN TV" emphasized that Albania is facing an election campaign and that there should be a quick decision from the judiciary regarding the mayor, Erion Veliaj.

Lala stated that the way Veliaj was treated, where the apartment safe was used by his wife, Ajola Xoxa, suggests that there are strong suspicions that Veliaj has committed a criminal offense.

"Ajola Xoxa and Arbër Veliaj have appealed to the Supreme Court and oppose the searches of their businesses, and Arbër Veliaj's apartment. They claim that the evidence collected by SPAK from the phone searches should be considered illegal. The Supreme Court should review it quickly. SPAK has not fully implemented the decision for Arbër Veliaj, as the phone was ordered to be seized, but he was abroad.

Albania is ahead of the election campaign, in the case of Veliaj, SPAK must make a final decision, whether there will be a security measure or whether it will close the case. It seems that the sudden checks, of course, by continuing in this way, give us the media the right to suspect that something is happening. So SPAK must complete the investigations and come to a conclusion.

The way SPAK acted, going as far as seizing Ms. Xoxa's clothes, made it clear that there was an investigation into Veliaj's whereabouts.

The fact that an apartment allegedly used by Mrs. Xoxa is being searched, safes, etc., so while there is a high perception that there are reasonable suspicions that Veliaj has committed criminal offenses, SPAK is obliged to provide an answer within a reasonable time. SPAK cannot pass them on the Greek calendar, I have also held this position for Mr. Berisha and Meta. Prolonged investigations are not preferable for anyone," said Lala. /CNA
