The deputy of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, in a statement to the media, stated that they will file a complaint against the candidate of the Democratic Party, for mayor of Mallakastër, Qerim Ismailaj, since the latter has been sentenced to 3 years in prison in Greece.

Bardhi underlined that DP will implement the decriminalization law while adding that Ismailaj should not run in the elections.

He further emphasized that the CEC violated the law by confirming the candidacy of Qerim Ismailaj in the local elections.

" Edi Rama's chosen for Mallakastra was sentenced to 3 years in Greece and was hiding from the Greek authorities. In February of this year, the Special Court against Corruption found Edi Rama of Mallakastra, Qerim Ismailaj guilty of falsifying forms and sentencing him to 6 months in prison. The CEC and the Council of Ministers should have ordered the immediate dismissal of the Mayor of Mallakastra, Qerim Ismailaj.

On April 5, 2023, in flagrant violation of the decriminalization law, Ilirjan Celibashi confirmed his candidacy in violation of the Qerim Ismailaj law. We will also file an appeal with the aim of the strict implementation of the decriminalization law. He should be banned from running in the elections ", said Bardhi./ CNA.al
