Integration/ Rama: 27 member states want Albania in the EU

Prime Minister Edi Rama participated in the meeting of the Socialist Party Assembly in unit 12 in Tirana.

Rama spoke about the integration process, stating that the European Union wants Albania's membership and said that there is agreement on this from the 27 member states.

" The European Union wants to take us inside and this is extraordinary. This moment is concrete. Now, we must do what we can to the end. We must do our utmost so that the open door closes only after we have entered inside."

Closing negotiations with the European Union means “closing accounts with the first floor”, because “the European Union has two floors”. On the first floor is Brussels and there are all the offices and all the officials who deal with the reforms, follow all the measures, follow all the actions that take place and make a report for the “second floor”. They only report how the work has progressed or whether the tasks have been completed and then on the “second floor” are the member states, there are 27 countries that sit down to make a decision and the way it works on the “second floor” is by consensus. It is enough for one country to say “we don’t want it” and the decision is not made, not only for us, but for everything.

Every decision of the European Union is made by consensus. But what is different today is that all the countries on the "second floor" say "we want to take Albania into the EU". And in all the cases when the letters have gone from the "first floor" to the "second floor", they have said "OK"; that is why we have opened all the negotiation chapters for 11 months. No country has done this before" , said Rama. 

Rama further mocked the opposition, saying that they confuse opposition to the government with national interest.

"We need to understand that we are alone in this battle. We are the biggest, we are the majority, but we are alone, because all the others who are not members, supporters, voters of the Socialist Party are against us and are so blind that they confuse opposition to us with the national interest and the common good of the country and all our children, both our children and theirs, so that we can seize this moment and enter the European Union ," he said. /CNA
